Jane L. Rosen is an author and screenwriter whose debut novel Nine Women, One Dress has been translated into ten languages. Her second book, Eliza Starts a Rumor won the Zibby Award for best sophomore novel and her third, A Shoe Story, will be out in June. She and her husband have three daughters and live in New York City and on Fire Island.
In this interview, Jane and I discuss On Fire Island, her connection to Fire Island and the strong sense of place in the book, infusing humor and heart into the story, grief in fiction, her cover, blurbing and Elin Hilderbrand's big quote for this book, weaving the publishing industry into the novel, and much more.
In this interview, Jane and I discuss A Shoe Story, her writing process, choosing the shoes for each chapter of this novel, how her book was selected by Elin Hilderbrand for her July Literati Book Club selection, getting thrown out of an Upper East Side Mom's group, looking forward versus focusing on the past, leaning into the shoe angle for marketing this book, and much more.
